Responsible, long-term operations are core values of the Aho Group, owned by the Aho family, and have guided the development of Rukakeskus Oy since 1973 and Pyhätunturi Oy since 1987. The owners’ goal is to maintain the companies as Finnish family-owned businesses and transfer ownership to the next, third generation. The long-term development of both resorts is based on Masterplan designs created with the Canadian Ecosign firm, built on the principles of sustainable tourism. Key objectives include pedestrian-friendly villages enabling car-free holidays, ski-in ski-out accommodation, so-called “warm beds,” and the development of year-round services. The Ruka and Pyhä Masterplans significantly reduce both climate emissions and environmental impacts while improving the long-term responsible customer experience.
Sustainability Program
The sustainability program covers the entire Rukakeskus Group, including its 100% subsidiaries: Rukakeskus Oy, Pyhätunturi Oy and Ski-Inn Hotels & Apartments Oy. Introduced in 2019, the program continues the environmental program launched in 2008 and includes social, governance and economic responsibility targets and guidelines. The program aims to ensure operations in line with sustainable tourism from environmental, social, societal and economic perspectives.
