A FELL FULL OF JOY FOR EVERYONE

Social responsibility

At our ski resort, social responsibility means promoting the well-being, safety, and equality of both staff and customers, supporting the local community, and taking responsibility for society.

A thriving and safe work community

The well-being and safety of our personnel are of utmost importance to us. We are a member of the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility network and are committed to following its ten principles, including equality and human rights.

We continuously develop leadership, training, and workplace practices with the goal of being the most desirable employer in the industry. All our employees are covered by collective labour agreements, receive at least the minimum salary defined by these agreements, and benefit from a wide range of employee benefits. We aim to provide opportunities for development and career paths. A large proportion of our employees are local.

Societal responsibility and promoting well-being

Promoting physical activity and well-being in society is an important goal of our sustainability work. We support children’s physical activity and introduction to snow sports by offering free lift tickets to all children under 6 years old. Children aged 10 in the surrounding area have received free season passes starting from the 2019–2020 season. For the 2024–2025 anniversary season, we expanded free season passes to all children in Finland born in 2014. Through sponsorships and scholarships, we support young athletes in reaching their goals. In addition, we support local sports culture, services, and employment year-round.

Safe and equal customer experience

The most important goal of our customer responsibility is to ensure a high-quality experience that is both physically and psychologically safe. We continuously measure customer satisfaction and develop our operations based on feedback. Safety development is an ongoing process, and we have long invested in ski patrol operations to ensure slope safety. Our goal is less than one accident per 1,000 skier days.

Ethical responsibility in our operations means equal acceptance and treatment of people, transparency in decision-making and reporting, and respect for and support of local cultures. We do not accept racism, discrimination, or any form of inappropriate behaviour. Our ethical responsibility also includes accessibility: we provide skiing, accommodation, and event experiences widely for guests with reduced mobility.

Zero tolerance

  • We would like to remind all guests that any form of inappropriate behaviour at Ruka is strictly prohibited. Our slope staff have the right to deny lift access to customers behaving improperly.
  • If you encounter inappropriate behaviour such as offensive language, bullying, harassment, or racism, you can always report it to our slope staff and ask them to intervene.
  • If you witness inappropriate behaviour on the slopes, you can also help by stopping, asking what is happening, and guiding the parties apart if possible. If needed, ask another adult for assistance or contact slope staff.
